'Legend holds that the Archangel Michael appeared atop the mausoleum and
sheathing his sword as a sign of the end of the plague of 590' A statue
was made to commemorate this event and was made by
Raffaello da Montelupo.
The statue was originally on top of the keep but was later on replaced
by another version
and the old one
and moved to a courtyard below. What I especially like about this
statue is the
how the wings look compared to rest of the stonework.
