This is a wonderful example showing the various layers of a
Roman archway
and how it was constructed. The unique
Roman brickwork
shown curling around the circular
space and what remains of the covering plaster forming a different shape and line to
the original arch.
Large parts of Rome are just open air
ruins
in various stages
of restoration and it did feel strange to see city life
carry on around them like they were just building sites.
