The Pergamon Museum is located on Museum Island and was designed by Alfred Messel and Ludwig Hoffmann over a twenty (1910-1930) year period. The Pergamon Museum is well known for the Pergamon Altar and the Market Gate of Miletus but I preferred the reconstruction of the Ishtar Gate and the Processional Way as it created a great sense of scale of what the perimeter of Babylon might have been like.

The small rooms around the Processional Way are full of Mesopotamian artifacts like large animal statues, richly decorative column bases and reconstructions of column designs supporting the ceiling. The gateway statues were often a synergy of different animals and had large amounts of ancient text carved into their base.
