The small town of Narita with winding streets and rows of stalls selling good luck charms is
home to the Narita-san
('Narita mountain') Shinshō-ji ('New victory temple')
Shingon Buddhist temple.
Dedicated to Fudō myōō
('Unmovable Wisdom King'), who is depicted
holding a sword and rope and surrounded by flames.
The Shinsho-ji temple was established in 940 and over the years has been expanded to include several uniquely designed buildings with
the Narita-san Park (16.5 hectares) added in 1928. The main temple area has a large three-storied pagoda
built in 1712 and the best building by far is an impressive Tahōtō pagoda built
on the top of a hill with gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape.
